{November 19, 2010}   Lowe Latest – Pearl’s Peacocks

A while back I mentioned the new Pearl Lowe range for Peacocks.

Well, finally it has arrived. This week it was released online and in the chain’s branches across the UK.

I was expecting there to be a little bit of noise about this in the press, but so far it looks like the range is making big noise – the fashion editors know a good thing when they see it, it seems. My theory as to why this range has done so well is that there are three factors

Pearl Lowe’s visionary design

Peacocks’ intelligent pricing of the range

And of course the Daisy Lowe factor. In getting her daughter to model the range, Pearl didn’t need to look far for getting the perfect girl for the job.

An example of the kind of media hits Peacocks is getting right now – in More magazine,  their cool denim shirt features as a High Street look alike of one of Cheryl Cole’s shirts in its denim feature – it’s on-trend stuff that’s very well done. The Pearl Lowe collection adds another dimension to this style phenomenon.

{October 21, 2010}   Pearl Lowe Christmas launch

With top UK value fashion chain Peacocks getting a lot of press coverage for its regularly updated range of stylish affordable clothing, it is now also becoming known for being trendsetter among the fashion cognoscenti. The widely admired Pearl Lowe at Peacocks range is in no small part an element of Peacocks’ knack for capturing the Zeitgeist, what with its brilliantly designed items at reasonable prices – and of course the added glamour of Pearl Lowe’s daughter being the face of the brand.

So it’s no surprise that Peacocks’ successful Christmas launch got some great coverage in Metro online, the website of the national newspaper. Held at the glitzy Connaught Hotel in Mayfair, London, the Peacocks Christmas launch was attended by model Daisy Lowe and her designer mum Pearl to show off the latest collection which is bound to be a smash hit in the fashion world. Available from November this year, pearl Lowe’s Christmas collection includes party dresses that will bring a touch of star quality to any party, along with other smart items such as faux fur coats and all at modest price levels.

Evening wear – how do you shop for it?

Some of the more upmarket shops easily sell stuff that isn’t particulary eye-catching, like £4000 for a dress, that’ll get worn only a few times.

Then there’s the neverending racks at the end-of-line discounters. Great if you’ve three afternoons’ worth of time to spend hunting for the right item.

Luckily in these information-rich times, there’s now the internet: with plenty of good inxpensive evening dresses online, so you can do your evening wear shopping online, and click your way to evening dress heaven!

{July 6, 2010}   Lily’s retail

Lily Allen is set to sell her own second hand clothes, according to this fascinating report from digital Spy.

Lily plans to do this in order to counteract the ‘throwaway’ shopping culture. I don’t know about you, but I’m guessing Lily’s cast-off threads won’t be throwaway items anyway but proper designer vintage stuff.

Lily Allen: clthing magnate?

We’ve a feeling here at Cheap clothes Rule that Lily could be onto a winner with this and that it could be the start of a trend. Who’s next?

We’d like to see shops by style icons like  Paul Weller. Put me down for a crew-neck cashmere Fred Perry jersey in grey please.

{June 24, 2010}   The jeans scene

Something that’s impossible to escape our eye here at the blog is the emerging non-trend in jeans. I mean, when we were kids the rules of acceptability were strict: only one cut or colour was deemed acceptable by the Fashion-Polizei at any one time.

How far we’ve come since then! Just a quick perusal of this celeb jeans blog and you can see instantly that there be many styles all on the go at once these days. This is a good thing, since it makes jeans more versatile and wearable in different social contexts. All denim life is out there, and for the time being it seems that it’s all fashion-friendly. Most of it is anyway. Sno-wash anyone? thought not! Check out the Jeans Blog for more on the ubiquitous fabric that we call denim, and its myriad uses!

So, what is your fave of the current styles? We’re loving the skinny jean style, it’s been too cool for school since day 1, and long may it continue – these are jeans with attitude, and they’re going to be around for a good while yet.  Check out what’s available from the high street or a jeans online shop and see what style you like best, and let us know!

Well, one of the most anticipated High Street fashion releases for a long time is finally on the shelves. The Pearl Lowe Spring Summer 2010 range for Peacocks arrived last weekend and we are keen to hear your thoughts! What did you buy? Are you pleased with your purchase? or could you just not make up your mind!

The range has been recieved very positively by the fashion blogging community, including a nice post by blogger Susie Lau from Style Bubble – see her thoughts on the range here (complete with some cool photos from the launch event!)…….

Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

Daisy Lowe models a dress from the new Peacocks range

There is a basic rule for mens summer fashion – keep it simple.

T-Shirts from – as always avoid big logos. Something like this Polo Top from American Apparel would do the job….

American Apparel Polo Top (£25)

You can see more solid styles of mens jeans and trousers online at Peacocks, these would be ideal……

Peacocks Trousers (£20)

Boat Shoes  – a pair of Sperry TopSiders would be nice but Asos currently have a nice range on offer that are about half the price.

Sperry Topsiders (£70-90)

Asos Deck Shoes - Cheaper alternative to Sperry (£35)
