{July 13, 2010}   On-trend: Rocking The Maxi

With style luminaries such as Alexa Chung, Sara Jessica Parker and Mademoiselle Robot rocking the maxi, we thought we’d use this post to sing the praises of this stylish garment.

There’s something romantic about the maxi that brings to mind stylish films from decades gone, walks in the park at dusk, shared breakfasts on Italian balconies, lovers slipping unseen down cobbled streets as cathedral bells echo down alleyways, moonrise over the Casbah, red wine and sea air, stars twinkling a morse code of mystery above.

Maxi dresses are totally now:

Well, one of the most anticipated High Street fashion releases for a long time is finally on the shelves. The Pearl Lowe Spring Summer 2010 range for Peacocks arrived last weekend and we are keen to hear your thoughts! What did you buy? Are you pleased with your purchase? or could you just not make up your mind!

The range has been recieved very positively by the fashion blogging community, including a nice post by blogger Susie Lau from Style Bubble – see her thoughts on the range here (complete with some cool photos from the launch event!)…….

Its been a while since we a) posted with an y purpose and b) had a look at some of the other cool fashion websites and blogs out there that you may not be aware of.

If we take it as pretty much a given that everyone has heard of The Sartorialist, Bryan Boy, Catwalk Queen, Facehiunter and the like –  but there are other sites out there that have some very cool content and most of all, can provide us with some fashion insipration:

Nerd Boyfriend – Ingenious, image based site that posts a picture of an iconic figure and then matches ‘real world’ items of clothing to the picture. Inspiring and also great fun!

Nerd Boyfriend

The Impossible Cool – The clue is is the name really here, images and quotes from some of the most impossibly cool people ever to have walked the face of the Earth. Simply brilliant.

The Impossible Cool

A Continuous Lean – According to Michael Williams, the man behind A Continuous Lean the site is about “…………things. American things, good looking things, well designed things and all sorts of other things.” Some of the ‘things’ highlighted are very cool indeed, well worth bookmarking this site.

A Continuous Lean

The Selvedge Yard – A great site for all the men out there, TSY has a wonderful collection of vintage movie star photos at its core.

The Glamourai – We love this site – its bursting with glamorous looks and ideas for fashion fun.

Just a quick heads up folks…………..

Ex-Indie queen Pearl Lowe has designed a very cool range of dresses for clothes retailer Peacocks (modelled by her daughter Daisy). They have been on the website for a couple of days and are selling fast.

Therefore, we would advise a speedy purchase, as this range won’t last long!

If you missed out then don’t fret – Peacocks has announced that Pearl Lowe will be designing another range of dresses for them for release in Spring/Summer 2010, great news – we can’t wait to see them!

……..ANOTHER UPDATE 19/01/10

Hi everyone – hope you liked the snappy post title, here’s a few interesting fashion stories of the last few weeks:

  • Emma Watson continues her inevitable ascent to the top of the UK female style tree by collaborating in the design of an ethical clothing range for People Tree. In her own words she was keen to use “fashion as a tool to alleviate poverty” Good on you Emma.
  • Adidas and Puma kiss and make up! – Yes, for Peace One Day (Monday 21st September), the two sportwear companies have decided to bury the hatchet and end the 60-year old feud that was insitgated between their founding brothers.

Thanks for reading.

Billionaire Boys Club is probably one of the most sought after labels on earth right now. Set up by the impossibly cool combo of Pharell Willams from NERD and Bathing Ape founder Nigo, BBC have a superb range of streetwear, at a price! For example, this T-Shirt will set you back £70, but it is pretty awesome. Money well spent.

With June approaching fast, there are probably several hundred websites and blogs with this title vying for your intention on the internet. The reason being, that the writer has read that list articles are a popular, easily scannable type of post which due to the nature of peoples attention span on the web is more likely to get featured in Digg or Reddit and the like – which is fair enough.

However, here are at CCR we are only interersterd in the clothes and if anyone reads our posts its a great bonus (and a big thanks to all that do!).

We proclaim no qualifications or real expertise – just a deep enthusiasm for fashion and a nose for what we feel people are going to be into this summer. We have nothing too shocking or revolutionary to say here, trends are very difficult to predict and sometimes can emerge from nowhere. Many of the Summer 2009 fashion trends were predicted by the major magazines and blogs in February/March – they have their reasons but its only now as we come closer to the actual summer that trends begin to emerge. What they still don’t understand fully is that the main players in trend setting is YOU. The real power to influence lies with YOUYOU define summer fashion, YOUR choices influence someone, who tells their friends and the effect ripples around the streets.

Anyway, slight rant over – let’s have a look at some clothes! Five fashion trends of Summer 2009:

1 – Denim – Will jeans ever go out of fashion? A perrenial winner, summer 2009 is no different. As well as classic cropped, skinnys and boyfriend jeans, weve seen some pretty cool Denim Skirt and dresses combinations. Peacocks as always have a great range of Denim shorts and  skirts, illustrating that you rarely have to break to bank for this look.

2 – The single shouldered dress and top – wow, tops and dresses with this look can be so sleek and sexy if done right – we’re so glad to see this style blasting back onto the high street. We would have one formal (like the Jane Norman top below) and one informal one-shouldered top, just to cover every occassion!

3 – Trousers – there is alot of trouser action on the streets already this year. Jumpsuits, harem, high-waisted and hugely bright colours are what weve come across so far. Fashion chicks have some great examples.

Harem Trousers - big, baggy and back!

4 – Transparency – light and airy transparent tops are definitely a big mover in summer 2009 – a great, versatile style that can look fantastic as a component of a layered ensemble – just be careful with transparent-only layers!

5 – High heels – the coolest shoes of the summer – literally. We would chuck our cheap clothes sensibiblities out of the window and invest in a pair of top class heels. Some great advice here on making heels comfortable.
