Fashion vibe – Autumn ahead…

Let’s face it folks – the summer is like so over. The mercury’s dropped, the sky is grey and those blissful bleached-out soft focus days of summer are just a memory, albeit a happy one.

For many of us, however, autumn beats summer. For one thing, it’s a chance to wear more clothes. So it’s time to fire up the laptop and see what’s available in online clothes stores, or maybe brave the rain and wind and go see what’s on the racks in the shops.

What’s going to be big?

Autumn colours – unsurprisingly: brown is the new brown, in quite a few shades from mustardy to kind of leafy browns.

Stylewise for the blokes coats are big with military patch pockets – don’t be afraid to try out a military greatcoat from a second hand shop. We’re talking bombastic style, looking like an extra from 1949 film The Third Man. For the girls it’s similarly classic looks this autumn, with stuff that’s got an almost 1950s JD Salinger vibe about it, as well as the above-mentioned military look that’s going massive.

But this is the decade of individualism, so if you don’t agree with what the fashion pundits are predicting, you can go off and blaze your own trail.

2008 Fashion Winners

From our point of view at Cheap Clothes Rule, 2008 was a transitional year in fashion – there were no huge breakthrough fashions and no designers grasping the style baton. Having said that there were a few fashion winners on the high street this year. Skinny Jeans, Gilets, Retro-Printed T-Shirts, UGG boots and Leather Jackets were ubiqutous in 2008 (although not necessarily worn together!)

Shopping for Winter Coats

Time For a Winter Coat!

This was my mantra this weekend as we in Scotland were hit by a blast of extreme cold weather, nothing unusual in that you may think – however, it is a little earlier than i would normally purchase my cold weather jacket. I had been offered one as a Christmas present, therefore i had a decision to make – get last years out the wardrobe or get one now. Last years was dismissed as an option as soon as i saw the state of what emerged, a dusty old rag that looked well past its sell by date. Off to the High Street to see the winter coat ranges!

In general, there are alot of elegant winter coats on sale this season. I had a totally open mind as to what i was looking for, as long as it was warm and versatile i wasn’t too bothered with the style. Big buttons, belts, clips, patterned wool and big lapels are all common elements amongst this seasons coats. I think that i may have missed the initial delivery in alot of stores as i found that many of the popular sizes (12, 14) were out of stock. Anyway, i tried a few on and made my decision. In the time honoured Cheap Clothes Rule tradition, here’s the list of the coats i tried!
